He trained in neurosurgery at the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the Southern General Hospital In Glasgow. He completed a MD Thesis supported by The Welcome Trust Research Scientist Fellowship, researching Apolipoprotein E in the CSF after acute brain injury (TBI and SAH). He has been a consultant neurosurgeon at the University Hospital Birmingham from 2003 and is the most senior neurosurgeon in the department. He has a very wide range of neurosurgical experience with particular interest in cranial neurosurgery including Skull Base Surgery, Acoustic neuroma, Meningioma, Neuroncology, Intraventricular tumours, Hydrocephalus, CSF, Chiari Malformation, Syringomyelia, Spinal dysraphism, Head injury, brain abscess, subarachnoid and intracerebral haemorrhage. Andrew Kay offers desk top reports and face to face assessment; most of his instructions are around about claims of clinical negligence and more complex personal injury matters.
